Our Founder and Director Professor Nicolin Govender is a renowned expert in the field of computational mechanics, with a particular focus on discrete element method (DEM) simulations. His career has spanned a diverse range of industries, from consumer packaged goods to pharmaceutical manufacturing and high-energy physics.
Prior to founding Blaze Computing LTD, Professor Govender held key positions at Mondelez International and the Research Center for Pharmaceutical Engineering, where he led research and development efforts in granular materials and pharmaceutical manufacturing. His collaborations with the University of Utah mining department and the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) further solidified his expertise in computational modeling and simulation.
A pioneer in the field of GPU computing, Professor Govender established the first NVIDIA GPU Research Center for Discrete Element Particle Modeling in 2013. His groundbreaking work in this area has led to numerous grants and awards. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the field of high-energy physics, having developed particle physics software for the ATLAS project at CERN as part of the search for the Higgs Boson.
Professor Govender's research has focused on addressing fundamental questions in computational particle mechanics, such as the effects of particle shape and domain size approximations. His innovative approach to using single precision GPUs for DEM simulations has laid the groundwork for advancements in the field.
